With the growing emphasis on physical health and playing outdoors, there has been a notable surge in the popularity of outdoor games. As a result, there is a wide array of choices available to outdoor game shoppers today. In this highly competitive landscape, brands need to employ effective visual strategies to differentiate themselves and capture the attention of customers in the digital marketplace..

As part of our Brand Attention Index, we analyzed Amazon’s Top 100 search results for outdoor games. We decided to compare two popular brands, SWOOC Games and Elite Sportz, in order to see how they fare against each other when it comes to PDP images across their listings for outdoor ring toss games

Hero Images

For the hero images, we compared SWOOC Games and Elite Sportz’ best results in the top 100. SWOOC Games’ top hero image earned a Vizit score of 64, while Elite Sportz earned a 94.

Both hero images display the full spread of game paraphernalia on a white background, which Vizit’s report identifies as a top product hero image trend. However, Elite Sportz outperformed SWOOC Games due to its effective product placement in the imagery.

In Elite Sportz's image, the game pieces are placed in the foreground, while the game container is positioned in the background, a placement trend shown to receive a high Vizit score. On the contrary, SWOOC Games opted for the opposite approach by placing the game container in the foreground, overshadowing the prominence of the game itself.

Carousel Images

The top carousel images across both SWOOC Games and Elite Sportz featured models using the outdoor game in a grassy, outdoor setting. Both brands scored highest on carousel images showcasing models playing with the outdoor equipment.

The brands scored lowest on carousel images with a plain or non-grass background. For example, Elite Sportz lowest scoring images were on stark white and blue backgrounds.

Attention and opportunity maps reveal that text-heavy images negatively impact some of the carousel scores. The highest scoring carousel imagery in their benchmark had little to no text, emphasizing the product and the models using the product.

Additionally, text placement can also affect the carousel image’s score. By swapping the text placement so that the game pieces and models are positioned on the left and the text appears on the right, the product can be showcased more prominently. This adjustment is likely to result in an increase in the Vizit score, as the product is given greater prominence in the overall composition of the image.

Despite the mixed results for Elite Sportz, the brand still outscored SWOOC Games. SWOOC Games loses ground by having a relatively low number of images: While Elite Sportz’s listing had nine images, SWOOC Games only had three.

The Winner

In our head-to-head showdown, Elite Sportz takes the prize over SWOOC Games. However, both brands could easily boost some of their scores by reducing the amount of text in their carousel images and increasing the focus on the product itself.
