An AI analysis of hundreds of top-searched board games product hero and carousel images on Amazon surfaced the most effective product hero and carousel images for online shoppers, as well as distinct visual trends.
Many of the highest scoring hero images showed the board games boxes posed on a white background. What was notable is how much of that staging and border was included in the product image.
While board games come in all shapes and sizes, games in square boxes tend to be more engaging to the general population.
Showing the game playing pieces and the game boards themselves often led to lower scoring hero images. The vast majority of the top visuals only featured the game box.
Carousel images depicting fun game nights with friends and family scored very highly among the general population. Many of these visuals including parents playing with their young children.

Unsurprisingly, images of the game board were prevalent. The highest scoring visuals typically featured a zoomed in, cropped look at a section of the board and accessories in action, without any models in the frame.
