An AI analysis of hundreds of top-searched gaming console product hero and carousel images on Walmart surfaced the most effective product hero and carousel images for online shoppers, as well as distinct visual trends.
Black and white color schemes reigned supreme among hero images. In fact, those that used color, including some from Nintendo Switch or a special holiday version of the Xbox, earned low Vizit scores.
Gaming console hero images often featured everything included in the bundle, but the highest scoring visuals featured the console itself on the left with the full layout of accessories on the right.
Hero images featuring only the console box were scarce, but those that showed just the angled packaging earned high scores.
Many of the listings were bundled with specific games, and in these instances carousel imagery depicting scenes from the game scored highly. This tactic was commonly used across brands.
Controllers, headphones, charging stations, cords—all accessories matter to audiences shopping for gaming consoles. These accessories were prevalent across carousel imagery. Controllers were the most popular, with many visuals devoted to their aesthetics and functionality.
While gaming consoles today are made to look sleek and dynamic, shoppers seem to care about what’s hiding in the back as well. Among the highest scoring carousel images were shots of the backside of consoles. Connective ports and fan vents drew much of the attention.
